Passion for motorsports runs deep at Enthusiast, as CEO Stacy Vickers takes to the track to launch Winton Raceway partnership.
Saying we know cars is an understatement. We don’t just insure enthusiast vehicles. We live and breathe them.
That runs right through our team, from the people answering the phones and assessing risks, to those you’ll find at car shows, track days and Cars & Coffee events on the weekend. More than a few of us have projects in the shed, cars we probably spend too much money on, or something we’re itching to get back out on the road.
That passion starts at the top, and we’ve been supporting Aussie enthusiasts since 2010.
Enthusiast Motor Insurance CEO, Stacy Vickers, has spent most of his life around cars. From racing everything from the original VW Golf GTI and BMWs to a turbocharged Mazda RX-7 Thunder Saloon across the UK and Europe, Stacy’s automotive history runs deep. Away from the racetrack, there’s been no shortage of classics in the shed either, including Lancias, Fiats and even a 1966 Lotus Cortina. And today? His tow car of choice is still a classic Range Rover.
These days, that enthusiasm hasn’t gone anywhere.
Stacy recently dusted off his Mazda RX-8 and headed to Winton Motor Raceway to compete with Formula RX8 Australia as part of the Hi-Tec Oils Super Series.
As Stacy put it:
“Comfortably the oldest competitor, and by far the heaviest, it was always going to be tough against the karting champions and racing instructors in the field, but there was still a moment in the sun for the old dog.”
That moment came when Stacy found himself back at the front of a race for the first time in a while.
“I think it’s been 16 years since I last led a race, so it’s been a long time between drinks.”
And in the words of the great philosopher Daniel Ricciardo, sometimes you just have to “lick the stamp and send it.”
The series brings together everything from grassroots competitors through to experienced Pro-Am racers, with a huge variety of machinery and people united by the same reason for being there: they love cars and they love motorsport. And that’s why it makes the perfect fit as a partner for Enthusiast.
Supporting the communities that keep car culture moving has always been important. Getting involved with the Super Series provides another opportunity to be part of that community at a grassroots level.
What better way to support than to enter a car and driver, so we did just that.
As part of our partnership with Winton Motor Raceway, around 200 metres of Turn 4 has been transformed into Enthusiast Corner, with the circuit walls freshly painted in Enthusiast yellow.
Winton has long been an important part of Australian motorsport, particularly at the grassroots level. It’s the kind of venue where people can turn a passion for cars into actual seat time, whether they’re taking their first steps into motorsport or have been racing for decades.
The partnership also represents another step in putting the Enthusiast name in places that genuinely matter to Australian car culture.
Earlier this year, two major Enthusiast signs went up at Mount Panorama, one on Mountain Straight and another at Brock’s Skyline. Now, Enthusiast Corner gives us a permanent presence at another iconic Australian circuit.
Across our team you’ll find owners, builders, racers and enthusiasts from different corners of the automotive world. That shared enthusiasm shapes the conversations we have with customers, the events we support and the communities we choose to be part of.
Whether it’s an RX-8 lining up on the grid at Winton, a thousand cars arriving at an Enthusiast Sessions Cars & Coffee, or someone finally getting their project back on the road after years in the shed, we understand why these cars matter.
