Our Take on Tony's 1974 LX SS Torana
We've never seen a rear end quite like this. Tony's Torana takes the term 'drag car' to a whole new level - not only is it capable of single digit quarter mile passes, it's show-car esc paint and fixings make it truly one of a kind. The attention to detail across every inch of this car is incredible, and that's just not something you see every day - especially on a car making over 1000hp.

565ci Big Block Chevy engine

At its heart lies a menacing 565ci Big Block Chevy engine, paired with a 2-speed Powerglide transmission and 9-inch differential – the magic recipe for single digit quarter mile passes. 

 

The body has been extensively modified

Featuring stretched rear wheel arches and a fully tubbed rear end to accommodate massive 15×14-inch Weld wheels at the rear. In true drag car fashion, the Weld wheels up front measure out to a comparatively tiny 15×5. A tube front end and full roll cage brings the Torana’s structural rigidity up to a whole new level and keeps the occupants safe at ludicrous speeds.

Inspired by his older brother's LC GTR Torana, gifted on his 21st birthday, Tony realised his dream with this build.

What’s next for the Torana?

It already makes bucket loads of power, but plans are underway to install a nitrous oxide injection system, promising even faster quarter mile passes. This LX SS isn’t just a car; it’s the result of an enthusiast’s wildest dreams coming true over a number of years. 

The moment this Torana rolled into the studio for this photoshoot, it lit up the room - even the non-car people couldn’t help but smile. That’s when you know a car is truly special.
