One of the most exciting new shows in the Australian VW scene, Dubfest is an annual gathering of VWs of all ages and types.
Combining air-cooled classics like Beetles, Kombis, Type 3s, and Karmann Ghias, alongside contemporary water-cooled models like Golf GTis and Golf Rs, Passats, Boras, Siroccos, Corrados, and Jettas, Dubfest aims to showcase the rich variety of the VW brand.
2026 marks the third year of Dubfest, which is presented by Melburgluft and Volksclub Bendigo.
A symbol of counter-culture freedom today, the Volkswagen Beetle’s origins are actually found in 1930s Germany. Produced for 65 years, from 1938 to 2003, with more than 21.5 million examples built, the rear-engined, air-cooled icon of 20th-century transport was originally called the Type 1.
Since its introduction in 1950, Volkswagen’s Kombi has been one of the world’s most popular vans, minibuses, and pick-up trucks. VW initially called the light commercial cab-over the “Type 2,” as well as the more famous “Kombi,” “Transporter,” and “Microbus,” depending on which specs the vehicle was ordered with. They were also one of the first post-war light commercial vehicles of their type.
